Has anyone started this quest yet - yeah, ok it's knights of the nine.

When I start it tells me that I need to be more famous (strange for a religious type quest!).

My fame's 114 (and ok my infamy's 36) just how more famous do I have to become?

Its not that you need to become more famous its that you need an infamy level or 1 or lower to do them.
you need to find a way to lower your infamy.
1 way that works a lil bit its givin tramps gold, say like you give all the tramps in each city one gold it should dr5op by a fair bit but otherwise ur screwed

I had a very high Infamy and all I had to do was complete the pilgrims quest, and my infamy dropped to 0. Haven't tried it with my new PC, but may last PC that did the quest had a fame around 120 and a infamy of around 90. I was also level 44 at the time and had not finished the main quest when I started the pilgrimage.

Strange that you need some fame to buy a home too, like in Skingrad, but that's the way it is. Of course you can give or take all the fame or infamy points you want with the modpcfame or modpcinfamy +or- a point amount with the console commands. So that pretty much removes the hangup of any quest playing ability or lack thereof.
I would suggest to all players to go to UESP.Net and learn the commands of the console to use while ingame. They pretty much solve any item, money, or fame or infamy point problems that arise for anyone playing Oblivion.

Of course that means game console players are pretty much left out in the cold when it comes to those solutions. I guess they are pretty much stuck with a start new game solution only. Another good reason I don't go the game console route, if it's not a PC game, it's not for me.
