Well, thats not the quest I was talking about, that mage one. Its the one for the Gray Fox personally. The Arrow of Extrication. If you kill any of the mages, you get expelled. Though seemingly, either it doesn't work in reverse, or they don't care about getting expelled and want you dead.

it does seem that to be fair - whatever you do you can still do everything else as long as youre willing to make amends with each guild that hate you

seems fair to me to be honest - at least if you put the work in you wont miss any missions

thats what im trying to do now

and keep a few previous saves in case i go horrifically wrong somewhere

although to be honest - occasionally that feels like cheating to me. not like buying a help guide - but in a game such as this - you should live by your mistakes etc i think

I think thats a good idea to have by this game, actually. I mean, your first time playing through it, you are bound to make mistakes. Trial by error and all that, but this time, it should have an element of "should I do this?"

anyways, im a vampiric dunmer assassin, born under the thief. ive been fine, am expert marksman, block, light armour, blade and acrobatics. i had no problems with any of the guilds quests

though admittedly i did get a bit freaked when i met my first daedroth on the arrow of extrication quest Very Happy

Were you in the mages guild and kill anyone? I was, but I only joined the mages guild to get that buoyancy spell off the argonian, so I didn't mind getting expelled.

surely theres not much that they wont let you do!

Well, don't kill on the thieves guild's time, and you will not have a problem.

this is true, but it only means you cant kill, when doing a mission in the guild, if your freelancing, you can kill as much as you want

On certain quests in the thieves, you can kill things. But you'll be notified of that in advance.
