I just did that quest and i got an adoring fan too. so i took him way out in the middle of nowhere and told him to stay lol.

Yes, the adoring fan is pain. But he can be very useful in a dungeon for distracting creatures you don't want to fight. If you enter sneak mode, the creatures will try and attack him, and he will run for it, leaving you an empty dungeon to wander through peacefully.
Until the monsters kill him that is, then the slaughter can resume.
