I'm having a problem with a house in Anvil actually, may as well post it here. It's a haunted mansion type thing and has a sealed portal symbol on the wall in the basement. And I can't work out what the frick I'm supposed to do with the damn thing. The house is bloody horrible at the moment, but I just can't work out what I have to do to make the quest advance.

Um, would you want a house that emits screams of terror at nighttime? At least that's what the npcs tell me happens.
And I bought it because it's also a quest.

10,000 will get you about a 3/4 furnished home. Houses come completely empty so after purchasing it, you have to buy the furniture sets.
Houses come as 2,000, 4,000, 7,000, 15,000, *60,000, and 400,000. That's not all of them as there are eight total (Anvil, Skingrad, Bravil, Leiwynn, Cheydinhal, Bruma, Chorral, and Imperial City). After 15,000 I forget the amounts until the 400,000 gold house.

You forget the 2000gp shack in the Waterfront of the Imperial City. I was under the impression it was for sale.
And don't forget that you can happily use other peoples houses. As a quest, I was forced to kill a dude, so I now use his place to store my fat lewt, as the haunted house is to grim for my liking.

***SPOILER WARNING***
In the mages guild questline you can get the arch-mages room in the top of the tower once everthing is complete. The game even tells you that it's your own. But I put some really nice gear in the chests then about a game's month later they dissapeared and were replaced with the items that were there before(game crap such as yarn...why the hell do they put this in the game anyways?!)

Meh. I own three houses now, so it doesn't bother me. And I know you can buy the shack on the waterfront. I was pointing that out.
