Bethesda Softworks has a tendency to focus one game at a time, and with work on every version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion tapering off, their eyes have turned to Fallout 3. Of course, they have teams experimenting with upcoming projects simultaneously, so discussion on the follow-up to Oblivion have already started within their ranks. Speaking to Pro-G, the studio's VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines speculated a bit.

"Well, I can tell you that since Oblivion has been such a smashing success that I'm sure we will do it [Elder Scrolls V], but there are no immediate plans right now," said Hines. As for what form Elder Scrolls V would take, that's still up in the air. An MMO seems a natural, evolutionary step for the series, but while Hines doesn't suggest that's a direction for Elder Scrolls V, the possibility of a new game has been bounced around. He doubts, however, they would go forward unless they had a "fresh idea" for the genre.

Needless to say, don't expect to hear much about Elder Scrolls V for a couple years -- nearing the end of this generation's life cycle seems fairly likely.

Zenimax has also copyrighted the name Skyrim, so that's probably where it will be set.

Couple of years sure seems like a long time to wait. Even with Fallout 3 coming soon.

There is also a strong possibility that Fallout will get the expansion and downloads treatment, further delaying the development of the game.

Well of course they're gonna make us wait. Do they ever do it any other way with the good games? It seems impossible to just say a game is coming out on a certain date and stick to it.

Yeah, pretty chure it will be in Skyrim, they may you they chaos (or w/e its called) system for graphics, or something better.

What i wonder is will it be the same kind of thing? Or will you have differnet races or have to stick too one?

I absolutely hate online games. What ever happened to just playing video games in the privacy of your home with no one around. Everything now has to be interactive with other people. Thats why we have internet, not video games.

I doubt that they will risk going for an mmo... at least not exclusively. One day they may do one, but I doubt they will abandon the RPG we all know and love.

I agree. I think mmo would totally ruin the whole game.

I was concerned about the new ZeniMax Media MMO team, and even more concerned about the development grant for it. Now they have registered elderscrollsonline.com

It is not a certainty,,, but a MMO is an idea on Zeni's horizon... :'(
