Dunmer Culture (before the empire)

Before the empire came to Morrowind, (Resdayn; before the empire) it was a very different place. The only outlanders were slaves, (mainly Khajiit and Argonians) and the every last Dunmer worshipped The Tribunal. Those who didn?t were put to death.

Some who didn?t however, were the ones that still worshipped Daedra. They hid away in shrines in the wilderness.

Magic that wasn?t Temple magic was black, and evil, even if it was just a non-believer curing someone. Vampires, witches, necromancers, sorcerers, warlocks, all were hated by the Dunmer. If they ever found one, they would put him/her on the stake.

House Dunmer were very hostile to the Ashlanders, and vice-versa. Neither missed an opportunity to raid the other. The Ashlanders said that The House Dunmer had forsaken their ancestors for the false gods (the Tribunal) Big cities like Vivec had a guild called ?The Sweeps? who clean up the ash after an ash storm. In the time of the empire, ash storms became less common in southern areas.

The Dunmer bury their dead in Tombs around Morrowind. It was the utmost crime to enter another family?s tomb, and a death sentence for taking anything from one.

The Ashlander tribes have a different way of burial. They mummify their dead and put them in catacomb like caves. If the Ashlander isn?t very important, they just take the skull and mount it on a pillar. Ashlanders are often buried with their weapons and armor.
